A friendly reminder from Jane Muir of what's required for the show season......

Hi All

Happy New Year to you all and maybe now is the time to check paperwork and memberships etc well in advance of the Show Season.

The following are some reminders and advice for people wanting to show in AQHA, NRHA and NSBA this year. Anyone who is not too sure is welcome to contact me for any advice. It is much better to get it right before a show – Show Secretaries tend to be less stressed that way!!! email quarterhorseshow@aol.com or tel 01303 814879

AQHA www.aqha.com

Please make sure you renew your membership to cover the divisions in which you want to show. Amateurs and Youths need to be sure their Novice Skill Sets are shown on their Cards.

Horses must be registered in the name of the owner or an immediate family member to be shown by Youths and Amateurs. Novice Youths and Novice Amateurs may show Leased Horses (new this year) as long as the Lease period is for a period of 6 months or more. Copies of the horse’s registration Certificate and the lease Authorisation must be presented to the Show Secretary.

If you have had your horse gelded make sure you have sent your original registration certificate to AQHA for updating. If you find you haven’t bring the original along to your first show and it can be stamped by the Secretary but it is better to have it done in advance.

If your AQHA Membership card is due to expire close to a Show either renew well in advance or renew at the show. The secretary MUST have sight of the up to date card. Just an acknowledgement of renewing on the internet is not enough.

AQHA are offering some Green Classes which some shows may run. Please be aware that these are only offered in the Open division and DO NOT count to All Around Awards.

NRHA www.nrha.com

Owners and exhibitors MUST be NRHA Members to show in any NRHA Classes. Non Pro’s be sure to renew your memberships checking the Non Pro Box. The Secretary must have sight of the up to date membership cards covering the division you are competing in.

Competition Licences need to be in the name of the actual owner this is essential for Non Pros who can only show horses owned by themselves or an immediate family member, excepting Rookie where there are no ownership restrictions. Please check your standings with NRHA to ensure you are eligible for the division entered.

All horses must be shown in curb bits one handed.

NSBA www.nsba.com

You do not have to be a member of NSBA to show but you will need to buy a day ticket for each show for the owner and exhibitor. As there are more shows offering NSBA Classes it is probably cost effective to become a member and the horse will then be credited with earnings and also be eligible for year end awards. Non Pro’s will need to join as such to be eligible to show in Non Pro Classes. The secretary MUST have sight of the up to date card

Horses must be registered with an NSBA recognised Breed Association.

Further information of all 3 Associations can be found on their websites and details in their Rule Books.
