    What's been going on?
     And what's planned……..

Fantastic Response to llan Rosenberg Clinics

Firstly - thanks to the weather - four beautiful days - sunny, pretty warm and low winds - just perfect as a backdrop for our November clinics.

Ilan was once again responsible for a fantastic four days of knowledge packed world-class tuition and training. All the riders who attended were impressed by his unique style, horseman's insight and knowledge. Everyone went home with loads having been achieved and a satchel full of new training ideas and exercises to work on.

    Ilan Rosenberg
    Ilan Rosenberg

The two days of clinics in February are already booked out and we are trying to get some more days from Ilan so we can meet everyone's needs. Needless to say Lou did her magic again in the kitchen conjuring up meals all day from breakfast to dinner - ably assisted on two nights by the Cheddar Thai and Banwell Raj. A big thanks to her from us all.

As a direct result of the success of the four days we are planning to add another two full clinic days to the February schedule - please see below for details.

    The Sylvia Jäckle Profile

Sylvia Jäckle has been at the forefront of western riding and training in Europe over the last fifteen years. Over this time Sylvia's success has been wide and varied and not just limited to the competition arena. Sylvia has also achieved acclaim as a successful author on western riding and its disciplines - she has underlined her ability and craft as a trainer on more than one occasion though having been responsible for starting horses and taking them through to success at major competitions in Europe. Really from start to finish

In the competition arena Sylvia is a versatile horsewoman competing at the top level in Western Pleasure, hunter under saddle and reining……..she is pretty handy at all the other disciplines too ! Sylvia is proud to have won eight European titles - six in pleasure and two in hunter under saddle. This year, in Augsberg in front of 5000 spectators, Sylvia rode our own 'Zip chip Leaguer', our pleasure stallion, to first place winning for them both 'European Open Western Pleasure Champion' title.

    Sylvia Jäckle

Earlier this year Pat Faitz said of Sylvia ' In Europe there are few more dedicated professionals than Sylvia - she is true professional and because of that will always be at or near to the top'

Sylvia woks from the Pegasus yard in Wulfrath, Germany - probably one of the best-equipped and stylish yards in Europe.

We are very proud to have Sylvia head up our Pleasure programme in Europe and feel sure that those who are attending the clinic here in December*** will have a fantastic time.

Spectators are more than welcome…………..please call John on 01934 751258 or contact us through the website for further information.

     Letter from the Chairman

Ramona Billing - editor, publisher and owner - Quarter Horse Today.

Quarter Horse Today - a European effort

Dear Quarter Horse friends, It's only six more weeks until the third 'birthday' of my website Quarter Horse Today www.qh-today.de and www.qh-today.com. Quarter Horse Today started on January 1,.2005. My idea was to offer a website showing all the aspects of this wonderful breed - regardless of the associations involved. To show the versatility and beauty of the great American Quarter Horse in all the disciplines, great sires and dams, great showhorses… And to offer a website not focussing on one special country but on Europe altogether. The American Quarter Horse has made a huge impact - just think of all the countries where Quarter Horses are bred and shown. And just think of the World Equestrian Games this year with reining in public focus, and the great rides we saw there - and not only by the medal winners, but riders from all over Europe. My opinion is that we should combine our efforts and promote this breed on a European platform, not only in one country.

So that's why I started a website in English where European Quarter Horse nations should have a platform for their riders, trainers, breeders and horses as well as their shows. I started talking to people asking them to supply information and photos. Well, everybody was very enthusiastic about it, but in the long run some countries proved to be more consistent than others. But of course, everything takes time to develop. We've made good progress so far: Quarter Horse Today has become one of the most popular western riding sites in the German speaking area. And I'm working hard on the English site as well. In the meantime, I've met some really great people in this business - and made some great friends! Like John and his lovely Lou. I'm proud to know people like these two, real horsepeople with lots of ideas, visions and love for this great and unique breed.

Since childhood, I've always loved Great Britain, English people and the English language. So it's a real pleasure for me to offer Quarter Horse Today as a special platform to British Quarter Horse breeders and trainers. So, please feel free to send your news to me Ramona.Fallei@t-online.de

You know the website now (and hopefully use it as much as possible), but I'd also like you to know a little bit of me. I'm a journalist, specialized on western riding / western horses. I was born near Bad Toelz, a picturesque and beautiful town about 60 km south of Munich in Bavaria. I grew up there and studied Journalism at the Munich University. After University, I started working as a public relations manager for a renowned company producing stainless steel equipment for the food processing industry in Lenggries (south of Munich). After a one year stay at Vienna, I returned to Germany and started my own editorial office and public relations agency in May 1999.

Loving horses and western riding all my life, I specialized on this topic from the beginning, although I've got customers in other businesses as well of course (medicine, wine etc.). Since 1990, I've been writing for horse magazines all over Europe promoting western riding and western horses. I've been the Manager of Communications of the German Quarter Horse Association since 2000 now, and I also write the monthly news of the NRHA Germany in the Western Horse magazine. I'm also the Manager of Communications for the European Championship of Quarter Horses, for the AMERICANA (together with Joerg Brueckner), for the World Reining Trophy and the International Western Riding Shows in Bremen and Dortmund. Also, together with Simona Diale, I've promoted the first edition of the FEI World Reining Masters in Oklahoma City 2004. My articles appear in the German Quarter Horse Journal, Western Horse, Western News (Austria), the Westerner (Switzerland) as well as renowned conventional horse magazines like Reiter Revue. I've got a special "Western Column" in the Pferdemarkt magazine. In 2004, I was awarded two Media and Marketing Awards by the American Quarter Horse Association and in 2005, the Vaquero Media Award by the NRHA USA.

This looks like a lot of work, and it is - and something like this is only possible if you are supported by your family. I am - by a great husband. My husband Arend is a vascular surgeon. Without his support and his understanding as well as his patience and good humour, all those efforts for the Quarter Horse in Europe would not be possible. Of course, the American Quarter Horse fascinates him as well. We've got two of them, a 14-year-old gelding by Quincy Sun Dun and an 8-year-old reining mare by Smartin Off. My husband's work in hospital and mine for the horse industry do not leave us time for showing, but we enjoy our horses all the same. They give so much to our lives, and they enable us to gain very special new friends wherever we go.

    Best wishes……

    Ramona

Latest news…. I will be making an announcement in the next few weeks giving details of two UK Quarter Horse Today representatives who will be helping to co-ordinate the flow of news and information from Britian. Ramona.

Why women are smarter than men…………..

When Dan found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided that he needed a woman to enjoy it with. So, one evening, he went to a singles bar, where he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.

"I may look like just an ordinary man," he said, as he walked up to her "but in just a week or two, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars."

Impressed, the woman went home with him that very evening and three days later, she became his stepmother.

     Dressage and Traditional Riding

The traditional section of the stud is continuing to prosper under the management of Celia Gadd. The Blackdown Hills riding club held a dressage test riding clinic recently which was very well attended. Pupils started with an hour's instruction from Celia on 'What the Dressage Judge is looking for' and she talked about the paces, general way of going and test movements.

Then the riders all performed a test, which was judged by Celia (List Five Dressage Judge) and she then talked about their performance giving them lots of useful tips on how to get some extra marks. One of the pupils went on to win a local dressage competition the next day and was delighted with the help. Lots of similar clinics and training sessions are planned for the New Year.

Celia has also been extremely busy this month along with Helen Griffiths organising the BBC Children In Need Dressage to Music Gala evening which takes place on Friday 17th November at The Hand EC near Clevedon. This 'X Factor' type evening invites the audience to pick their favourite act and as well as some top class riders, there will also be some entertainment. An Auction of Promises and raffle will provide some unusual and highly sought after Christmas present material, one of which is a two hour Western Experience lesson here at the stud.

Another BHS Stage One course is planned to start in January, probably on a Saturday to meet demands so anyone interested in that should contact Celia on 07779 716 826 or at celiagadd@btinternet.com
