The
Mendip Stud
July
2006 Newsletter
Note from the
editors.
| This months newsletter
is a little later than usual…. sorry about that but we are catching up from a
pretty hectic month which has been topped off with some of the best summer
weather for years – so we’ve spent a little more time out than in.
J
We now have over 1000
recipients of our newsletter and that number is growing month by month. Our aim
is to try to give information about what is going on here at ‘The Stud’ and
also some general information on what is going on in the sport through
"Letters
from the Chairman" and other specific articles……….if you have contributions
and or ideas please let us know…the newsletter takes time and effort to put
together and we’d like your help in making it better and more useful……..

As
there was so little to chose between them we thought it would only be fair if they shared a private training
session with Ilan Rosenberg on his next visit to The Mendip Stud
- congratulations to you both.

Ilan
Rosenberg clinics – July 2006
Once again Ilan gave those who attended the clinic
as riders and spectators a weekend full of expert tuition, great insight and an
exceptional horseman’s mind and understanding of both the horse and rider.
I know that Ilan and Niki read our Newsletter, so on behalf of those who
attended a heartfelt thank you to you both.

"Hi ho, hi Ho and off

Zip Chip Leaguer better known as
Studley goes to Germany
|
After
his winter rest from his very successful show season last year Studley
has not been an idle lad. He spent a little time at training camp with
Doug Allen and Shane Boland before coming home for the breeding season.
Breeding wasn't his only job in the last few months as he spent a lot of
it being ridden by Lou teaching her some his Western Pleasure skills and
also acting as Dave Dellin's clinic and demonstration horse earlier in
the year. He has made the silver screen too being filmed by MITV for pieces on Western
Pleasure which are hoped to
feature on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in the course of the next
twelve months or so. |
| |
|
|
|
| Studley
will be based near Düsseldorf where he will be in the very experienced
hands of 5-time European Champion Sylvia Jäckle who will be showing him in Europe in both AQHA
and NSBA shows and classes over the next nine months. As well as
competing him throughout Europe Sylvia will be trying to fix him up with
a lot of new girlfriends German, French, Austrian, Italian and Swiss and
excusing the pun other members States to form a real European Union J |

|
| This
years foal crop has been exceptional. He's stamped his socks, blaze,
dish and temperament on them all and we can't wait to see his babies out
in the show ring …….Amongst his offspring this year Studley has been
privileged to have had babies from some wonderful mares including Pat
and John Greaves' Smooth Serena and Lita Pocock's MBJ Blazing Babe and
IMA Triple Zip Chip John Hall's Zips Miss Silver Jet, Catherines
Wright's SR Poco Mount and Lucy Adam's Bit Ofa Dark Horse many of whom have been
successfully rebred. Look out for their babies next year J |

Bumper BBQ……July 4th
| Wow – what a great
night. Eight-eight revellers turned up for the evening which was
memorable not only for the great weather and atmosphere but also for
the feast that Lou put on………Henry the Eighth famous for his love
of banquets would have been impressed.............even Lou exceeded
her own expectations ………the food was out of this world ………Dessert
Island went down so well that sadly we had one post-BBQ report of chocolate
withdrawal after someone gave the chocolate fountain a real beasting J J
.
It was the ideal opportunity to
welcome Celia Gadd and her friends to the Stud
- all of whom seemed to enjoy themselves and perhaps went away thinking
we weren't just a bunch of sad wannabe cowboys chewing on tabbacci and
beans……..

It was also really great to see Richard
and Maddie Cleare who are currently
back in the UK on a months trip away from their Gainesville , Texas home.
Richard has kindly agreed to write an article for next months newsletter
entitled “Living the dream” – we are looking forward to that.
Thanks
also to all those who helped on the day and night. Especially Claire who not
only managed an impromptu reining demo but also worked late into the night
leading the clear up team and doing most of the washing up.
Thanks are also due to Dawn and Adam not only for supporting the evening
but also for the raffle prizes which yours truly messed up on and failed to get
raffled……….I’ve agreed that they will be auctioned/raffled at the next
social event here with the proceeds going to British reining. Sorry for missing
the chance that night!

are a few pictures of the night in our galleries section - click

Free Lecture and Open Evening
The lecture by Jenny Griffiths and
Louise Harvey was an outstanding success. 48 people came to the viewing and
lecture. The consensus was that lectures of this type would be a welcome
addition to the events we put on. Please help us to gather together ideas on
what you’d like to hear about from the Vets…………help us get it right
and use the submission form on the website to tell us the topics that would be
most valuable to you. - thanks J
It
takes Jenny Griffiths and Louise Harvey many, many hours to prepare these
lectures so please send in your support
for the idea together with a range of topics so that we are able to
hold their interest in doing all the preparatory work.
Donations
on the night raised £50 which has been sent to our Charity of Choice for 2006
- ‘The National Foaling Bank’
DVD's
from Dave Dellin & Ilan Rosenberg
We've just finished putting the Dave
Dellin clinics onto DVD and are nearly finished with the Ilan Rosenberg ones.
We'll get them out to those who have ordered them as quickly as possible. Once
again sorry for the delay!

From Francesca Sternberg – On the
Garden of England International festival.
Garden Of England International
Festival of Western Riding 2006
The picturesque showground in Bodiam,
East Sussex, is once again gearing up for the annual Garden of England Festival
of Western Riding. Competitors from all over Britain will be preparing to make
the journey to the South East to compete for the largest prizes offered outside
the USA and Europe at his years NRHA, AQHA show.
The prize fund is standing currently
in excess of £15,000 for the 3 day show which will offer classes in all AQHA
disciplines for registered American Quarter Horses as well as top league prizes
in the National reining Horse Classes. The FEI approved CRI class will be held
on Thursday afternoon for those riders wishing to qualify for the “Masters”
held in Denver, Colorado, USA, this year, and the weekend will see Double Lawson
Trophies in both Non Pro and Open classes. Competitors will include the riders
short-listed for the British Team for this Septembers World Equestrian Games as
well as top competitors from Europe.
Organiser Francesca Sternberg said
earlier this month “We tried to downscale the show a little from last year, as
that was so enormous that it took everyone rather a long time to recover! With
WEG is a mere six weeks away the committee thought that it would be prudent to
have a smaller show and then go large again in 2007. However the popularity of
the venue seems to have taken no notice of this attempt and once again we are
expecting more than 100 horses and competitors to be on site by Friday! We have
some wonderful sponsors such as Audi, Harry Collins the Jewellers and Warwick
Drake International, who have generously supported us and it looks as if the
Sponsors champagne and Cream tea tent will once again be flourishing on Saturday
afternoon!”
We welcome all members of the public
who can enjoy free entry and the show will be underway from 9am on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. Those wishing to watch the CRI will need to be on the
showground on Thursday.
