Congratulations to Debbie Burns who was the first to send us a full set of
correct answers.
Below are the
answers.........
1) The location on the map
clue
Santa Fe (New Mexico)
2) The name of the landmark
and its location
Surfer Statue in Santa Cruz
(California)
3) The title of the song and
the name of the artist who had the original hit
'Santa Baby' sung by Eartha
Kitt (click here to listen to it)
4) The names of 5
celebrities
Jennifer Aniston, Will

the celebrity names in the right order)
Many congratulations to
Debbie Burns, her mum and Clare! Special mention to Jane Clothier who was
in a neck and neck race with Debbie's crew but got pipped to the post by
just 38 minutes!! We also wanted to say a big thank you to everybody else
who took part, we hope you all enjoyed it!
Foaling at the Mendip
Stud
by Lou Talintyre
| Fully
Monitored Foaling Facilities
Foaling
facilities at The Mendip Stud are of the highest standards and are
designed with the safety and comfort of visiting and resident mares
and foals in mind. We were awarded a BQM in 2006 and strive to
uphold these good standards at all times. We offer large,
comfortable stalls and trained, experienced foaling attendants.
Foaling mares are monitored with closed circuit TV monitors, and a
foal alert system. Experienced foaling staff are available 24 hours
per day to watch and assist your mare in the foaling process. |
 |
 |
|
|
|
| Colostrum
Bank
We hold
colostrum on hand at all times, both natural and powdered. Our
colostrum bank is continually renewed so that it is fresh for each
foaling season. We will provide the nutrients your foal needs in
those first important hours if the mare is unable to adequately
provide the colostrum herself. |
|
|
|
 |
| Foal
Imprinting and Daily Handling
Newborn foals
can be imprinted at birth. All foals are haltered the first day and
led everywhere along with the mare. This daily handling helps to
develop a safe, strong and confident foal. Grooming and feet
handling becomes a natural part of your foal's daily routine.
Foaling
Examinations
& Vaccinations |
| All
newborn foals and mares are given post-foaling examinations by our
veterinarians not only to ensure a healthy start to life for your
foal but also to health check your mare after foaling. Your foal is
vaccinated at this time and bloods taken for analysis to ensure
enough antibodies have been absorbed. |
|
 |
Low
Stress Weaning & Socialisation
All foals are
weaned in groups to help make this as low a stress experience as
possible. You can leave your mare and foal here from birth through
to weaning or bring both of them back for weaning. You can rest
assured that your mare and foal receive experienced supervision
during this period of adjustment. Weanling and yearling pastures are
available to our customers with the option of year round boarding
and care for your mares and foals. Horses may be boarded in stables
or out at grass, including a foal-only pasture for socialization.
Pastures have access to shelter and water and foals are fed daily.
Foals receive complete care including vaccinations, hoof care and
grooming. |
|
|
|
| If
you are interested in any of our foaling services please feel free
to call and discuss services your requirements with me on 01934

Have a great year - Lou. |

The Results and Diary service
We have had commitments
from many of the show organisers and secretaries to help coordinate the
new website. - Jo Corringham will be getting things moving in February and
March during which we hope to have initial layouts and plans finalised.
Thank you to all of you who have offered to help.
For those of you who are
unaware of what we are up to the plan is to offer an extensive online
results and diary service from the end of May onwards. To have a central
collection point for all results from Western Shows and activities
Show
secretary's will be asked to forward results and photographs to Jo who
will then post them on the website. Last year we identified a need for a
well-maintained one-stop destination for western enthusiasts in the UK to
see who did what, when, and with what score and when the next chance to do
it again will arise. The diary Service will provide a show diary section
for both shows in the UK and for selected shows in Europe. Results will be
posted in the month of the event to sixth place in all classes and to 10th
place in national championships and classes with international status.
We are looking for
additional sponsors to help get this underway and to keep it going from
individuals, societies, show organisers anyone involved in putting on and
competing in shows. -
Sponsors Please step

July 4th Independence Day BBQ Extravaganza
and 'The Club' Show
A diary date for 2007,
something to bring a little sunshine into these rainy days and a date to
pencil in for the summer months
It seems a little odd to be thinking of BBQ's and summer nights in the
middle of the winter but we've decided to make a whole day of it and have
our Summer Club Show on the same day as our annual Independence day BBQ.
Following on from the success of last years BBQ we are planning to repeat
the evening and would like to make it a little bigger and if numbers are
sufficient etc. hire a band
.there will be salmon, prawns,
langoustine, steak and all the other variety dishes and salads served up
by Lou and her gang - Master BBQ Chef Wills will be in charge of the
Barbeques. We will need five this year - offers please - we will also have
a Champagne and Pimms bar
. As last year it will be an all
ticket affair
tickets will be £12.50 a head - £6.00 for kids -
(14 and under ). There will be an auction in aid of The National Foaling
Bank with all sorts of equine-based goods up for grabs. Tickets will be on
sale from the 1st of May.
During the day there
will be 'The Club' western show - please contact Sheena Atkinson from
March the 1st onwards for details of classes etc.

Clinic's - cancellations and administration
Mendip Stud cancellation
policy and conditions.
Unfortunately we have had to create a policy and write some terms and
conditions due to an increasing number of late in the day, last minute
cancellations. We have taken this step reluctantly and hope that all our
clients will understand the need for these provisions. Clinicians have to
be paid whether the customer is here or not and that's the simple bottom
line. We will also stop those who block book and then cancel (serial
cancellers ) regularly from being able to block book in the first place.
We hope you will support and understand the need for these actions.
Payment Terms and Conditions
Clinics by clinicians from outside of the UK require payment in advance.
Payment and payment only secures the booking. If pre-payment is not
received by the required date - ( as detailed on the invoice) - we reserve
the right to sell the place to another party. Refunds for these clinics
will only be available if a suitable replacement participant can be found.
Cancellations for confirmed places on all other clinics and seminars may
be made up to 2 weeks in advance without penalty, cancellations made
thereafter will be charged at full price unless we are able to find a
replacement for the confirmed place.
Block bookings will not be
accepted from serial cancellers.
We reserve the right to change
the venue from The Mendip Stud to other arenas either indoor or outdoor
due to reason of poor weather, unsuitable surfaces or other health and
safety concern. It is accepted on booking that this does not constitute a
right to cancel.
If you are unsure about any of
these terms or conditions please contact John Calder or Will Masters on
+44 (1934) 751258 prior to booking.

The Pleasure event
offering the largest purse in Europe so far, the 2007 Pleasure
Celebration, will take place at the renowned Kreuth facility. This
decision was made because of the sponsors and with agreement of
Ludwig Quarter Horses. The show offering EUR 20,000.-prize money
plus a breeding to Radical Revolution will be part of the renowned
Bavarian Summer Show (July 12-15, 2007) which also moved to Kreuth
this year. The facility offers optimal showing conditions, and the
Bavarian Summer Show has established its place as a good show for
years. Also, this show offers another attractive opportunity:
competitors have got the chance of also competing in the EUR 2000,--
Golden Series Western Pleasure. |
The Pleasure Celebration
will take place for the first time in Europe. The event is organized by
Carola Vey, who brings her friend J.R. Reichert's idea from the States to
Europe. In the U.S. A., this event is one of the highlights of the
Pleasure year.Only 3-year-old horses are allowed to compete that have
never been shown under the saddle before. The class is limited to 20
competitors, and all slots have now been sold. So, entry slots can now be
sold, leased, or a syndicate can be founded. People interested in this may
contact the slot owners (www.pleasure-celebration.com)
.
Among the slotowners at
the moment are Stefan Aerts (BEL), Kristina Haberl (AUT), Marleen Coppens
(NED), Iris Oplusstil (AUT), Peer Kraack (GER), Torsten Haier (GER) and
Karin Prevedel (ITA) .
The Pleasure Celebration
is judged by three judges. Every slot owner can nominate his two favourite
judges. This will lead to a ranking and - if there are ties - a lottery.
The Draw Party will be celebrated during the International Western Horse
Show at the Kampmann Pferdesport Festival in Bremen (February 23 and 24,
2007).

Dressage Training & Shows Coming Up
The English and
traditional show division of the Mendip Stud has a busy few weeks coming
up with plenty of training and shows planned (weather permitting!!)
Celia Gadd BHSII BHSSM
has some spaces left on her dressage training groups on Sunday 11th
February, Sunday 18th February and March 10th.
The first open
unaffiliated dressage competition takes place next Saturday 27th Jan and
there will be another one on Saturday 24th February. There are classes for
all including a Walk and Trot only test so a great chance to 'have a go'
if you just starting out in dressage.
Full and training livery
is available at the stud by arrangement and a three day intensive training
course is being planned for the end of June which will give riders a real
opportunity to progress and also to work on their ground work skills and
ride some other horses.
The stud now has a full
riding school license and there are English and Western horses available
for lessons from very novice to advanced so please contact Celia or Lisa
for further details.
Looking for rider - we
also have a horse who is looking for a new partner at the stud. Friday is
21 years young but still very fit and active and has taken part in
eventing, dressage and show jumping over the years. He hasn't been ridden
now for about 18 months but we will get him back into work and make sure
that all the buttons are in working order before putting anyone else on!
His owner's circumstances have changed and he is sadly no longer in a
position to afford the livery costs and so we are trying to find a
solution. Ideally what we would like is for him to stay here on
part/working livery and find one or two people to share the costs and the
fun! An ideal way of getting to ride at a reasonable price without having
to worry about looking after him on a daily basis if you are busy or
working..
For more information on
any of the above ring Celia on 01934 751171 or 07779 716826 or email celiagadd@btinternet.com
