Our purpose built, state of the art breeding centre facilities include a phantom mare, separate teasing stocks allowing us to prepare the mare for insemination in one part of the barn whilst using a different mare to tease the stallion (this is particularly useful for nervous mares or mares with foal at foot). Double insemination stocks allow us to breed or scan 2 mares at one time whilst allowing us the opportunity to inseminate or examine mares with foals at foot in a relatively stress free safety zone. Due mares are checked and assessed four times daily and the foaling crew provides 24-hour foal watch backed up by electronic foaling collars and C.C.T.V. Our foaling boxes are all well lit, large and individually C.C.T.V. monitored. Heat lamps are available during cold spells. The lab is equipped with all the specialist equipment needed to successfully breed and monitor the insemination process using either fresh or chilled semen. Lou Talintyre heads up the breeding team. Lou is a fully qualified DEFRA licensed AI technician. Our handlers are trained and experienced ensuring that mares and foals alike receive quality care whilst at our facility. All staff attend regular seminars to keep abreast of the latest developments in knowledge and techniques. Veterinary support is provided by Tim Randle BVSc MRCVS and Nicko Robertson BVet Med MRCVS of the Stables Equine Practice (BEVA), one of the most prestigious equine practices in the U.K. We can now offer a frozen semen insemination service as well as semen storage. Call for further details. Please note - We will only accept and inseminate with frozen or chilled semen from outside the UK if the correct health papers accompany it. |
